On July 20, 1714, an Inca rope bridge on the road between Lima and Cuzco breaks and drops five travellers into the gorge. Brother Juniper, a Franciscan who witnessed it, sets out to prove the event was divine design by reconstructing their lives: an eccentric marquesa, her young companion, a twin bereft of his brother, an old theatre manager and a child.

Wilder’s short meditation on love and chance won the Pulitzer Prize for the Novel in 1928. Download the free EPUB.
