A portrait painter is invited to Okehurst to paint Mrs. Oke, a strange, languid woman who drifts through her old house arranging flowers and daydreaming. She has become fascinated with an ancestress of the same name and with the poet who loved her two centuries before, and her husband’s jealousy of a man long dead begins to grow dangerous.
One of the finest Victorian ghost stories, subtle and unsettling, also known as Oke of Okehurst. Download the free EPUB.
