A young priest arrives in a French country parish determined to be a saint, and finds his vows tested by his own body and by the women of his household, above all his servant Veronica. Hector France, a committed anticlerical radical, follows the village intrigues and the priest’s struggle with candour.
A frank nineteenth-century French novel of clerical life, in the tradition of Zola’s The Sin of Father Mouret. Download the free EPUB.
