In 1847 the young Flaubert set out with his friend Maxime Du Camp on foot and by coach through the Loire country and Brittany. He describes the shabby emptiness of Chambord, the ruins of Clisson, the standing stones of Carnac, Quiberon, Quimper and Pont-l’Abbé, the dances of Breton peasants, Brest and Saint-Malo, with an eye already sharp for absurdity and beauty.
Early Flaubert, ironic and vivid, for anyone who loves Brittany or the making of a great writer. Download the free EPUB.
