A young Ethiopian king, one day to be counted among the Magi, rides out with camels laden with myrrh and gold dust to visit Balkis, Queen of Sheba, and finds love a harder study than the stars. Five tales follow, among them the gentle comedy of a country priest in The Curé’s Mignonette, the legend-haunted Daughter of Lilith and Laeta Acilia.
France at his most ironic and graceful, for readers who like their legends told with a sceptic’s smile. Download the free EPUB.
