An unfinished will leaves the estate of Vivey to the young Julien de Buxières, who arrives shy and awkward in a forest region of France. There he meets Claudet, the master charcoal-burner Père Théotime and a free-spirited girl of the woods, and conscience, love and a strange dark secret entangle all of them.
A graceful French rural romance, steeped in forest life, by a novelist and poet of Lorraine. Download the free EPUB.
