Frederick Cook served as surgeon on the Belgian ship Belgica, which became trapped in the pack ice and spent the first winter ever passed by an expedition inside the Antarctic. His account runs from Rio and the Fuegian channels to the months of darkness, illness and gloom aboard, with Roald Amundsen among his shipmates.
A vivid record of polar survival by a man later notorious for his disputed North Pole claim. Download the free EPUB.
