In 1864 the young brothers Frank and Alexander Jardine set out to drive cattle and horses from Rockhampton to the new settlement of Somerset at the tip of Cape York. Compiled from their journals, the narrative records months of rain, waterless creeks, lost horses and repeated violent clashes with the Aboriginal peoples whose country they crossed.
A key document of Queensland exploration, read today also as a record of frontier violence told from the settlers’ side. Download the free EPUB.
