On 10 April 1895 H. Darwin McIlrath and his wife set out from Chicago on bicycles to circle the world for the newspaper The Inter Ocean. They pedal through hailstorms on the plains, stay where the James gang hid, and on to Asia, where Chinese officials put them up in a palace.
