In May 1925 Roald Amundsen and the American Lincoln Ellsworth took off from Spitsbergen in two Dornier-Wal flying boats bound for the North Pole and came down on the pack ice near 88° North. Amundsen tells the story of the expedition, Ellsworth gives his own account of the flight, and the pilot Hjalmar Riiser-Larsen explains the navigation, the choice of aircraft and the lists of provisions and gear.
