In Burgundy grows up Kriemhild, fairest of maidens, guarded by her royal brothers Gunther, Gernot and Giselher. Siegfried comes to Worms to win her, helps Gunther woo the warrior queen Brunhild of Issland, and so sets in motion the quarrel, betrayal and vengeance that bring the Burgundian heroes to the court of Etzel.
