Drawing on the eighth-century Kojiki and Nihongi and on later folk belief, Rinder retells the legends of Japan from the birth of the gods on the Plain of High Heaven. The Sun-Goddess hides in her cave, Prince Ruddy-Plenty visits the Palace of the Ocean-Bed, the Star-Lovers meet once a year, and Jizo guards the souls of children.
A graceful late-Victorian collection of Japanese myth, a good companion to Lafcadio Hearn. Download the free EPUB.
