From 1882 Leland collected stories among the Passamaquoddy, Micmac and Penobscot peoples of Maine and the Maritimes. This book gathers myths of Glooskap, the creator-hero, the merry tales of Lox the mischief maker, the adventures of Master Rabbit, and stories of witches, giants and little people such as the Mikumwess, with notes comparing them to Norse lore.
An important early record of Wabanaki storytelling, though Leland’s Norse comparisons reflect the theories of his day. Download the free EPUB.
