Arthur Prohack, a Treasury official who hates to be hurried, belongs to the new poor of post-war London until an unexpected legacy makes him wealthy. Money transforms his household: his wife grows ambitious, his son plunges into business, his daughter into independence, and Prohack himself tries to enjoy idleness at the Grand Babylon Hotel.
A genial comedy of money and middle age from the author of The Old Wives’ Tale. Download the free EPUB.
