An emerald whose history reaches back to Catherine the Great vanishes, and suspicion falls on the wrong people. Belloc’s comic mystery follows a harassed householder named Humphrey, an eccentric professor cousin with a knotted forefinger and a cast of English types as the stone is pursued, in a story dedicated, with tongue in cheek, to Maurice Baring.
A playful entertainment from the Chesterbelloc partnership, with Chesterton supplying the pictures. Download the free EPUB.
