Sam Slick, the talkative Yankee peddler of Haliburton’s earlier books, crosses the Atlantic in the 1840s as an attaché to the American legation, with the Reverend Mr. Hopewell and the Nova Scotian narrator in tow. He tours English country houses, inns and London society, firing off homespun proverbs and opinions about tipping, the aristocracy and everything else.
Broad comic satire from one of the founders of North American humour; its treatment of Sam’s Black servant reflects its era. Download the free EPUB.
