A chief conspirator recruits a pal, and the two embark on what they cheerfully call a crime: a scheme involving the beautiful Mary Carstairs in the small town of Hunston. Local politics, a talk in the dark, a yacht named the Cyprian and a cast of idle townsmen complicate a plan that soon depends on the young lady herself.
