The American traveller of The Sketch Book returns to the Yorkshire hall of Squire Bracebridge for a wedding and stays to observe everyone in it: the busy man, the family servants, a widow and her retinue, an old soldier, Ready-Money Jack and assorted bachelors and wives. Between the portraits come tales told around the fire.
Irving’s affectionate, gently comic portrait of the English gentry, written for readers who loved his Christmas sketches. Download the free EPUB.
