J. Franklin Jameson gathers contemporary writings on the Dutch colony that became New York, each with a short introduction. Father Isaac Jogues describes Manhattan in 1646, an anonymous journal recounts the colony’s Indian war, and the 1650 Representation of New Netherland sets out settlers’ grievances against the West India Company, alongside reports on the Fresh and South Rivers.
