Leaving the castle, young Eric travels on the Continent with his friends, seeing The Hague and the Dutch cities, hearing of the dikes that hold back the sea and visiting Strasbourg. The high point is his descent in diving armour to the bottom of the sea, and later a theft brings Eric into trouble before the real thief is found.
