Grierson turns the old Scottish ballads into prose stories for young readers, quoting the verses as she goes. The blind Lochmaben harper sets out to steal King Henry’s horse, Kinmont Willie is rescued from Carlisle, Wallace fights for Scotland, Muckle-Mou’ed Meg wins a husband, Dick o’ the Cow outwits the Armstrongs and the Heir of Linne squanders his inheritance.
A lively doorway into Border balladry, with all its raids, wit and romance. Download the free EPUB.
