John Gay’s eighteenth-century verse fables, first written for the young Duke of Cumberland, are here reworked by John Benson Rose and dedicated to a little girl who asked him for a book of her own. The lion, tiger and traveller, the spaniel and chameleon, the miser and Plutus, the lady and the wasp all appear, each fable ending in a sharp moral, with some Chaucerian verses as prelude.
A curious and affectionate reworking of a once-famous collection of English fables. Download the free EPUB.
