Tilda, a sharp-tongued, kind-hearted orphan from a travelling circus, takes a lonely small boy under her wing and runs off with him in search of his true family. Their journey by waterway and road brings them a kidnapping, a down-at-heel actor named Mr. Mortimer, a tattoo that may hold the key to the boy’s past, and a stream they are sure must lead to the Island.
Written in lively working-class dialect, it is a funny and touching chase story by the editor of The Oxford Book of English Verse. Download the free EPUB.
