Princess Alicia, eldest of nineteen royal children, receives a magic fishbone from the Fairy Grandmarina that will grant a single wish, and then refuses to use it while her father the King runs short of money and the babies keep falling under the grate. Dickens wrote the tale in 1867 as part of Holiday Romance, pretending it was the work of Miss Alice Rainbird, aged seven.
A short, funny fairy tale in which Dickens mimics a child’s storytelling to perfection, ideal for reading aloud. Download the free EPUB.
