Sidney Lanier trimmed Malory’s Morte d’Arthur for young readers while keeping its old language. The story runs from Arthur’s secret birth and the sword in the stone through the deeds of Lancelot, Gareth, Tristram and the other knights of the Round Table, the quest of the Grail, and the last battle.
