The circus is coming to Smyrna, with elephants, clowns, giants and a lion, and Kit Watson soon shows two acrobats he can match their tricks. Mistreated by the guardian who controls his father’s money and sent to work for a blacksmith, Kit escapes to join the troupe, sharing breakfast in the tent and life on the road while his enemies plot.
