In Aunt Stanshy’s barn in the seaside town of Seamont, Charlie Macomber, Sid Waters, Juggie Jones and their friends found a club with grand marches, butter-tub audiences and solemn pledges. Through Fourth of July celebrations, mishaps and a sick patriot, the boys try to climb the ladder of good conduct, as the series title promises.
A cheerful Sunday-school story of nineteenth-century boyhood; its dialect portrait of the Black club member reflects the attitudes of its day. Download the free EPUB.
