Football at Gridley High is at sixes and sevens: members of the athletics committee would rather drop the game, and a clique of soreheads is sulking in camp. Dick Prescott, Dave Darrin, Tom Reade and Greg Holmes set out to save the season, while a mystery surrounding a schoolmate named Dodge leads Dick to stumble on something unexpected.
