At Hillton, Neil Fletcher is a promising football player and Paul Gale his loyal roommate, with a lame young friend, Sidney, cheering them on. Through practice with the head coach Mills, a quarrel, an injury and the long build-up to the season’s great game, Barbour mixes field action with lessons in loyalty and grit, including a trick play borrowed from a real football tactician.
