Woody Hartford is seventeen and can rebuild a carburetor without thinking, after two years at a service station in Hermosa Beach, California. His harder problems are whether to spend ten dollars on Cindy Lou or Mary Jane, and how to get behind the wheel of a racing car. When the chance comes, he takes an MG onto the track.
