Little Sir Bevis can hear what the creatures of the English countryside are saying, from the weasel and the brook to the wind itself. Through him we follow the plotting court of Kapchack, the cunning magpie king, his rivalry with Choo Hoo, emperor of the wood-pigeons, and a great storm that shakes the old oak.
Jefferies’ 1881 fable blends close nature observation with sly political satire, for older children and grown readers alike. Download the free EPUB.
