Quiller-Couch set out to gather the finest ballads from the whole national stock, as he had gathered the lyric in his anthology of English verse. The book opens with the fairy ballads, among them Thomas the Rhymer, Tam Lin and Lady Isabel and the Elf-Knight, and moves on through tales of love, murder, outlaws and war.
A generous anthology for anyone who loves the old sung stories of Britain, with glosses for the dialect words. Download the free EPUB.
