Written by a former farm boy who became a London shoemaker, this poem follows young Giles through the farming year in Suffolk: spring ploughing and lambing, summer harvest, autumn gleaning and hunting, and winter feeding of the stock. Its plain, affectionate detail about the work and the animals made it one of the poetic sensations of 1800.
A classic of English rural poetry, prized by readers of Clare and Crabbe. Download the free EPUB.
