In the first part of Masefield’s narrative poem the hunt assembles at the meet: ploughman, parson, squire, doctor, sailor, farmers and girls on ponies, each sketched in quick couplets as a portrait of English society. In the second, the poem turns to the fox himself and follows him across the Ghost Heath run with the hounds behind.
One of the great English narrative poems of the twentieth century, by a future Poet Laureate. Download the free EPUB.
