In a small Scottish town a surgeon raises his daughter Menie Gray alongside two apprentices: the steady Adam Hartley and the handsome, ambitious Richard Middlemas, a foundling. Both go out to India, where Middlemas’s ambition leads him into the court of Hyder Ali and a plot that puts Menie in grave danger.
A late tale from Scott’s Chronicles of the Canongate that carries his storytelling from Scotland to India. Download the free EPUB.
