Drawing on Gilchrist’s life and on long meditation on the poems and designs, Gardner follows Blake from childhood and apprenticeship as an engraver through marriage, the bluestocking salons, and the influences of Wesley, Whitefield, Lavater and Swedenborg, to the years of rebellion and vision that shaped the prophetic books.
A thoughtful study for readers who want to know how Blake’s inner life grew into his art. Download the free EPUB.
