Samuel Reynolds House arrived in Bangkok in 1847 and spent nearly thirty years there as a Presbyterian medical missionary, treating patients, preaching and teaching, and attending the court when Sir John Bowring came to negotiate his treaty with Siam. Built from his letters and journal, the book also honours his wife Harriet, her assistant Arabella Anderson, and their godson Boon Itt.
A vivid first-hand window on mid-nineteenth-century Siam and on the missionary doctors who worked there. Download the free EPUB.
