Written in the months after Lincoln’s assassination, Frank Crosby’s biography follows him from his frontier boyhood and early manhood through Congress, the debates that brought him before the nation, his election and journey to Washington, and the war years. It quotes Lincoln’s speeches and letters at length, including his defence of the draft.
