Théophile Gautier, to whom Baudelaire dedicated Les Fleurs du mal, writes of the friend he knew: his appearance and manners, his dandyism and his ideas on art, his translations of Poe, and the making of his poems and prose poems. The volume adds a selection of Baudelaire’s poems rendered into English verse by Guy Thorne.
