The French musicologist André Pirro begins with Bach’s forerunners at the organ, Frescobaldi, Froberger, Pachelbel and Buxtehude, then follows Bach’s own career as organist and examines the chorale preludes, fugues, toccatas and other organ works, reading their figures as a language of feeling and Lutheran faith. Charles-Marie Widor contributes the preface.
A classic study for organists and anyone who wants to hear more in Bach’s chorale preludes. Download the free EPUB.
