John Frost gathers short narratives of Native American life and frontier warfare from many sources: tales of gratitude and friendship, captive settlers marched to Canada after the Deerfield raid, ambushes and strategies, and leaders such as Tecumseh and the Prophet. Its language and attitudes are those of an 1850s white compiler, sometimes admiring and often hostile.
