Philadelphia society, with its parvenus, flirts and would-be fashionables, comes under Eliza Leslie’s sharp but good-natured eye. The stories include Mrs. Washington Potts, a lesson in social pretension, Mr. Smith, Uncle Philip, The Album, The Set of China and Laura Lovel, each built on a small comedy of vanity, money or misunderstanding.
Lively early American satire of manners from a writer better known today for her cookery books. Download the free EPUB.
