A young American carries a letter of introduction to Mark Ambient, the English novelist whose book Beltraffio he worships. Welcomed into the house, he finds that Ambient’s wife Beatrice detests her husband’s writing and fears its influence on their beautiful small son, and the visitor’s enthusiasm proves more dangerous than he knows.
One of James’s finest tales about art and its cost, short enough for a single sitting. Download the free EPUB.
