The Kentons are comfortable, settled people of a Middle Western county town, but when their daughter Ellen falls under the spell of the vulgar, unscrupulous Bittridge, Judge Kenton and his wife take the family to Europe to escape him. On the voyage and in Holland the sad Ellen meets the young minister Breckon, while her siblings Lottie and Boyne make discoveries of their own.
Gentle, perceptive family comedy from the dean of American realism. Download the free EPUB.
