Lemuel Abbott kept this diary at twenty-two as an officer of the Tenth Vermont Volunteer Infantry, recording each day of 1864 and the spring of 1865 down to Lee’s surrender at Appomattox. Marches, camps, lines of battle in the Shenandoah Valley and along Opequon Creek are set down in close detail, with later recollections and notes on comrades.
