Edmond Dantès and Haydée have a son, Esperance, and this French continuation of Dumas follows him into a world of plots, invasions, hidden pasts and a would-be regicide found armed in the king’s apartments. Fanfar, Pierre, Françoise and a hut at Outremont all have parts to play as the old count’s legacy passes to a new generation.
