Back on his African estate, Tarzan adopts an orphaned lion cub and trains it into Jad-bal-ja, a golden lion that hunts at his side. When a gang of adventurers sets out to plunder the gold and diamonds of Opar, Tarzan is drawn back to the ruined city of La and her priests, and into stranger country beyond it.
