Neewa, a black bear cub born while his old mother Noozak slept through the winter, first looks down on the world from a den on a barren ridge in late March. Fate ties him to Miki, a big-footed pup, and the two orphans must hunt, hide and survive together through the forests and trap lines of the northern Canadian wilderness.
