When the captain and crew of the whaling schooner Pilgrim are lost chasing a whale in the southern Pacific, fifteen-year-old apprentice Dick Sands must sail her home with Mrs. Weldon, her small son, an eccentric entomologist cousin, five rescued African-American sailors and the sinister cook Negoro. Sabotage drives them not to South America but to Africa, and into the hands of slave traders.
Verne’s angry portrait of the African slave trade, with the racial assumptions of 1878, for readers of classic adventure. Download the free EPUB.
