Calverley’s first collection mixes the comic and the learned. There are parodies of the poets of his day, mock-serious lines to Miss Goodchild, verses on Valentine’s Day, the alphabet and the pleasures of evening, set beside careful translations to and from the Latin and Greek classics.
Light verse at its most accomplished, for anyone who loves parody and wordplay. Download the free EPUB.
